Do you have an opinion?

My mom read this quote to me ...

Start where you are

Use what you have

Do what you can.

by Arthur Ash

It seems so simple but the right answers always are. I keep thinking that I need to start completely over, buy all new furniture and spend more money then I have. I love this simple reminder. My home is really coming together thanks to this kind of thinking and I have lots of projects to share. The problem is that I am in the middle of four or five of them at the moment.

I do need your thoughts on something though - You are all so good at pointing me in the right direction.

I wanted to use some frames and prints that I already have to create "a series of six" on my wall.

I love the dog sketches and the frames are the right size and all identical (except for the black one I experimented on). Plus, I have everything on hand. Lauren's post about reusing things really inspired this project. Her blog is called Pure Style Home and she is awesome.

The prints are from the book: Dogs as I See Them by Lucy Dawson. I hunted it down on eBay years ago. I had three framed sketches hanging in my son's nursery in my last house. I still had several more illustrations from the book and I was able to get three matching frames, seven years later, because I remembered seeing them at Joann's Fabric and Crafts !

My intention was to paint the gold frames another color, maybe black. But once I got them on the wall, I really liked the gold and can't really imagine another color.

Is the gold tacky? Too 1992? Cheap looking? All wrong for my gray cabinets/nickel hardware kitchen around the corner?

What color should I paint them?

or is the gold just the right thing?

I can't wait to hear what you think!!!!!

My vote is not the black which surprises me. I actually like the gold because it adds a little warmth, plus the dog pictures really look nice with a hint of gold. If you do go for paint color, I would suggest a cream mat with a small gold border.

I am not a fan of gold frames, so take my advice with that in mind. I would paint the frames the same white as your molding and maybe rub some color on the beading. I think the white would make it feel as if it is part of the wall. I am loving white frames and mats right now.

However, I can help you make it an easier choice. Just email me a high resolution picture, and I will alter the color of the frames in photoshop. You can decide from there what looks best.

I hope GOLD isn't 1992! I have my kids latest pics in Gold frames. I love your dogs, I remember seeing them in the nursery. I like them in the gold.

Hmmm. . . I think not black but only because there is no other black around it so they wouldn't relate to anything. Maybe the cream would be a good idea as Amy Lynn Smith says.

without seeing them I would say no gold, but I think they look awesome on your wall. Now I am looking for the right wall to do a "series of six" thanks for the inspiration. I do like the suggestion of white, but from the picture I really think the gold works.

1st question do you have another gold one-to replace the already painted black one?

Why didn't I notice that when I was there today. In the picture it looks super great with the gold, really warm and so fun.

But it is hard to tell if the frames look cheap. I was choosing frames just today for my family picture and I thought all the gold frames looked a bit cheap, but I do have 2 gold frames I got years ago that I love and look awesome. I need to see it in person. I am going to come over.

hey, bethany

i like the gold. i also wonder if the white/cream frames would not pop enough since the wall color is a light linen color. anyways, i am in no way an expert, so good luck. i am excited to see what you come up with.

I was going to say I like the gold and then I noticed that Cote de Texas commented and got all giddy. I'm such a nerd!!! If the frames are the only gold in your space maybe do what amy lynn sugests and do white.

I think the black will really make the artwork standout, it will help make the set a focal point, so if that was your intention I'd say go for the black. The gold does add warmth and a more cozy feel to it. Not a solid gold color though. I would prefer a more rustic shade of gold, maybe sand it up a little. Hope this helps! :)
