Cary Grant and Tom Hanks

Image from the movie "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream Home"

I watched a great movie last night called, "Mr. Blandings Builds his Dream Home" staring Cary Grant. Sixty years have passed since the making of this movie but not much has changed. Mr. and Mrs. Blandings set out to buy a home in the country. They purchase a fixer upper thinking that the house needs just a little imagination. After knocking over the entire house they adopt a "while we are at it" mentality and the project escalates out of control. There are several surprises along the way like the well that has to be dug and a flood. Small changes here and there lead to bigger changes and bigger bills in the end. But no one can tell them how much anything will actually cost up front or how long it will take. It is kind of like "The Money Pit" with Tom Hanks and Shelley Long. Both movies are "must sees" for anyone in the middle of a project. You might laugh or cry depending on how your project is going. But either way it begs the question...In 60 years hasn't anyone figured out how to build or remodel a house with out going way over budget and loosing their sanity?
