Quote

If people knew how hard I had to work to gain my mastery, it wouldn't seem wonderful at all.

Michelangelo

I think sometimes we look at artists and think that they are just talented, that their art just flows from them effortlessly...I like this quote because it reminds me of how much work must go into a given project in order to make it successful. Whether it is throw pillows for your couch or building a home. It all takes time, money and effort.

A friend recently complimented me on my throw pillows and wanted to know where I got them. They were actually the result of lots of searching and were relatively expensive. Additionally, I had them custom made (this time someone else did the sewing). What I am saying is that they were no small undertaking. She was disappointed that her throw pillows (that she picked up at Pier 1) did not measure up. Her reaction reminded me of myself on several occasions when I thought that I could find a suitable shower curtain, or bed duvet in one easy trip to the department store and I wasn't sure how to explain to her that there would be a lot of work involved if she wanted her home to look and feel like the homes she loves in the magazines.

So if you are in the middle of a project and you are discouraged at how hard it is just remember Michelangelo and keep going.
