I wanted to share my favorite tool for designing floor plans, furniture layouts and cabinets. It is called Microsoft Visio. It isn't exactly the type of software you would find most designers using but it has seen us through our entire remodel. .
The software was originally developed for software/network designers but there is a floor plan feature that is really great. It has templates for furniture, cabinets, plumbing, electrical and appliances. With everything drawn to scale it is a great way to see what you will and won't have room for and how the proportions in a room will work out.
